Vintage MCM Lucite Whale Functional Sculpture for Desk or Vanity by Ritts, USA. ***NOTE: Our 1stDibs store is closing end May and items will not be available thereafter.*** Perfect for the Mid-Century Modern affcionado who likes art and whales but who demands function as well as form, this lucite sculpture is made to hold pens or make-up brushes and look good doing it. Additionally, the whale's mouth is a slit for holding mail, cards, notes, etc. The sculpture measures approximately 9 x 3.5 x 3 inches and is in good vintage condition. As is typical with vintage lucite, there are some visible blemishes, and scratch-like marks around the eyes, which seem to appear in these Ritts whales commonly -- perhaps they are part of the creation process. There appears residue from four tiny protective dots on the base. Overall though, this is one of the cleaner of the Ritts whales we've seen. (We have listed a second one in a slightly less good condition as well.) Of course, the pen and brush are just for demo and will not come with the sculpture.
