After the antique polychromed bronze bust of the Prima Porta Augustus Caesar. Italy,mid-20th century A extraordinary, large scale, very heavy mid 20th century bronze example of the iconic Roman orignal full-length portrait statue of Augustus Caesar. Realistically cast and modeled, with exquisite touches of gilt and multi color enamel to subtly highlight the intricacies of the bust, especially the breastplate of the armor which depicts the retrieval of Crassus' standards from the Parthians, with allegorical imagery. Raised on a marble dust composition plinth base. This work is unsigned. Bust alone 26-inches high x 20-Inches wide x 10-Inches deep Marble Dust Composition plinth base alone 12-inches wide x 10-inches deep x 9-inches high Further Notes: The Prima Porta Augustus statue was discovered during excavations at the Villa of Livia at Prima Porta in 1863. The original (Circa 14-20 AD) marble sculpture was unearthed at Emperor Tiberius mothers home Livia.
