Beautiful Hand Carved Art Deco Era Sculpture of Artist & Designer Chris De Moor

About the Item

Solid teakwood bust of an attractive and clean cut gentleman on a coromandel base. Christiaan Nicolaas Everhardus (Chris) de Moor (Rotterdam, 1899 - Amsterdam, 1981) was a Dutch artist and designer. Creating everything from wall tapestry, stained glass windows, paintings, drawings, watercolors, wall fresco's and more, Chris was a regular Renaissance man. He attended numerous exhibitions and he was even awarded an honorary diploma for a woven tapestry at the Salon in Paris in 1937. In the year 1928 (when this work of art was created) Chris de Moor was 29 years of age and whomever hand-carved this striking and very realistic bust (maybe it was Chris de Moor himself) did a great job. The perfectly natural facial expression is simply marvelous. The artist has perfectly captured the free spirited, artistic and strong personality of this upper class young man, in the middle of the Art Deco era. The geometrical Art Deco base ties in perfectly with the Dutch Art Deco period in which this striking bust was made. What we also like about this piece is that, in Holland (and in other parts of Europe as well) this 1920s hairstyle including the facial hair is again very much 'en vogue'. The combination of a 'barber shop revival' here in Europe with men again wearing short sleeved white shirts & suspenders actually makes this unique bust 'temporary art' and therefor too extra desirable. However, in contrast to what we see nowadays (and this is the only difference we can think of right now), Chris de Moor probably did not have his forearms tattooed ;-). If you like the quality, beauty and present day significance of this unique bust then you will love our price. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are complimentary.
