Goldscheider Friedrich Metal Alloy Paris France Boy Playing Banjo, circa 1895

Goldscheider Friedrich bust (made of metal alloy / painted): Black boy playing banjo (= an american instrument). Made by Goldscheider French Manufactory in Paris: Founded in year 1892 by Friedrich Goldscheider (1845-1897) / the manufactory was directed by Friedrich's son Arthur Goldscheider (born 1874; he moved to Brazil / Rio de Janeiro in 1948; date of death unknown). - Arthur has become successful in France, having founded the group of artists "La Stèle" in the 1920s / his French manufactory in Paris called "Maison franco-tchèque" after First World War was closed in the 1930s. Detailed description: Bust of black smiling boy playing banjo. Most remarkable sculpture (made of metal alloy) of stunning lifelike impression: The cheerful boy wearing a straw hat as well as a cotton shirt rolled up is busy with making music by skimming over a banjo's strings. The style of this gorgeous bust is strongly influenced by designs once created by Viennese sculptor Artur Strasser (1854-1927) who had worked on behalf of Viennese Goldscheider terracotta manufactory: His sculptures (among others, a wide range of oriental and exotic figurines) were determined by this very special realism which was of significant influence during late period of Historicism (particularly during 1880s and early 1890s of 19th century). PLEASE NOTE that an US customer told me that this statue had been commissioned by Greenleaf & Crosby, a Jacksonville, Florida, USA jeweler. It had been designed by Émile C. Hippolyte Guillemin (1841 – 1907) and the metal was probably spelter. Material: Metal alloy (spelter ?) / painted. Hallmarked: DEPOSÉ a second inscription is existing, but it is nonreadable Measures: Total height: 40.0 cm (= 15.74 inches). Total width: 29.5 cm (= 11.61 inches). Total depth: 17.5 cm (= 6.88 inches). Weight: 6.94 kg / 15.30 pounds. Condition: Excellent / there aren't any imperfections existing!
