French Marble Bust of Louis XIV, circa 1830

Known as the Sun King, Louis XIV, was the longest reigning monarch in Europe. His reign in France was marked as a time of unparalleled prosperity and French domination. With rich detail, this marble bust depicts him in regal attire, ringlets falling over his shoulders, with a medallion hanging at his chest. Even the fabric of his ruffled jabot exhibits the detail of a scrolled pattern and stitching at the hem.
