About the Item

A stunning trio of Machine Age chromed metal sculptures, featuring Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, and a windmill. Incredible precise metal sculpture works with Machine Age stylized robot look in heavy chromed brass. Don Quixote, a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, was written in the 1600s and is one of the most influential works from the Spanish golden age, and forever a classic. No visible maker's mark. Measurements: Don Quixote: 3.13 in. wide (8 cm) x 5.5 in. deep (14 cm) x 13 in. high (33 cm). Sancho Panza: 2.75 in. wide (7 cm) x 2.75 in. deep (7 cm) x 6.69 in. high (17 cm). Windmill: 8.25 in. wide (21 cm) x 3.13 in. deep (8 cm) x 10.25 in. high (26 cm). (Measurements in item detail are for the windmill alone) Don Quixote (1605 and 1615): The plot revolves around the adventures of a noble from La Mancha named Alonso Quixano, who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his mind and decides to become a knight-errant to Revive chivalry and serve his nation, under the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. He recruits a simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire, who often employs a unique, earthy wit in dealing with Don Quixote's rhetorical monologues on knighthood, already considered old-fashioned at the time. Don Quixote does not see the world for what it is and prefers to imagine that he is living out a knightly story. In the course of their travels, the two protagonists meet lots of different characters. Their encounters are magnified by Don Quixote's imagination into chivalrous quests. The most famous episode takes place (part one, chapter VIII) when Don Quixote fights against giants who are none other than windmills despite the warnings of his squire.
