    A silvered bronze sculpture of an Amazon woman, nude and with bow, signed by the artist Marcel-Andre Bouraine, cast by Susse Freres in the lost wax technique "Cire Perdue", in script and stamped with several foundry marks. Marcel-Andre Bouraine - French, 1886-1948 The sculpture depicts a naked female Archer in a powerful, streamlined pose with swept back, stylized hair and arc shaped fabric draped over her body. She holds a bow in a show of strength, competence, energy and athleticism. Original silver plate with a hammered, martele surface. Signed at the base Bouraine, Sometimes referred to as "Penthesilea, Queen of the Amazons, and also known as Tireuse a` l'arc. The figure can be also be interpreted from a mythological vantage point and thus can be attributed to Dianna the huntress, Diane Chasseresse, or Artemis from Greek or Roman mythology. Historically archery was used in hunting and combat, but today it is mainly recreational and a competitive sport. Marcel-Andre Bouraine is highly regarded by Art Deco collectors. He was a French sculptor born in 1886 in Pontoise. Bouraine was self-taught and briefly studied under the sculptor Alexandre Falguière in France, who focused on realism in sculpture.
