French, Art Deco Terracotta Athlete Sculpture by Bargas
About the Item
This fabulous French Art Deco patinated terracotta sculpture of a nude male athlete is signed Henri Bargas. This well executed sculpture has a patinated finish that resembles bronze and dates to the 1930s.
Bargas exhibited at the Paris International Exhibition of 1925, credited with the beginning of the Art Deco style. His male figural pieces are characterized by a demonstration of athletic prowess in the heroic Greek manner.
