French Late 18th Century Solid Walnut of David Having Slain Goliath
About the Item
A striking and most impressive French late 18th early 19th century solid walnut of David having slain Goliath signed A. Mercié. The statue is raised by a finely carved wrap-around berried laurel band where David stands. The handsome David wears sandals and proudly stands with one foot on the defeated Goliath's head. David holds his sword in his right hand and a rock in his left hand. He is covered by a leaf and displays a wonderfully carved facial expression and fine attention to detail in his hair and hat which displays a fine foliate band. Beautiful original warm patina throughout.
