Rare dutch "Gaper" statue with monkey on his shoulder.
Located in Leuven , BE
A gaper is a stone or wooden figurehead, often depicting a Moor, Muslim, or North African. The figurehead first appeared in the late 16th century as a hangout sign used outside the storefronts of drug stores in the Netherlands. The meaning of gaper is the same in English; the figurehead is always displayed with an open mouth, sometimes with a pill resting on his tongue. The gaper's gaping tongue could represent the intake of medicine and grimace represents the bitter taste of the medicine. The gaper takes on various appearances that are symbolic of the origin for the pharmacist...

Saint George slaying the dragon, Flanders, 17th century
Located in PARIS, FR
Carved alabaster group, with base, representing Saint George slaying the dragon. Flanders, 17th c. Missing horse's tail, chips on the base and gluing (with original parts). Traces of polychromy and gold repairs. Beautiful, very expressive ensemble. In a legend, Saint George—a soldier venerated in Christianity—defeats a dragon. The story goes that the dragon originally extorted tribute from villagers. When they ran out of livestock and trinkets for the dragon, they started giving up a human tribute once a year. This was acceptable to the villagers until a princess was chosen as the next offering. The saint thereupon rescues the princess and kills the dragon. The narrative was first set in Cappadocia in the earliest sources of the 11th and 12th centuries, but transferred to Libya in the 13th-century Golden Legend.

High Tea Pot by Studio Wieke Somers, 2003
By Studio Wieki Somers 1
Located in Dronten, NL
This daring, contemporary design classic turns the polite activity of tea drinking on its head. The Rotterdam-based Studio Weiki Somers—one of today’s brightest and most poetic design stars—surprises us by modeling a teapot on the shape of a pig’s skull. The studio originally designed this piece for a project called Deliciously Decadent; Somers herself defines decadence as the moment “where the tasty and the unsavory, the harmful and the delightful, are no longer discernible from one another.” The High Tea...
