Raymond Peynet for Rosenthal Studioline Rare Mid-Century Modern French Sculpture

About the Item

Beautiful Mid-Century porcelain sculpture designed by French artist / cartoonist Raymond Peynet (1908-1999) for German porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal in circa 1958, as part of the their 'Studioline' range of items - works which were collaborations between famous artists / sculptors / designers of that era. Here we have 'the knitter' commonly referred to as 'girl with sheep' and/or 'girl with lamb'. It is really a wonderful and whimsical design by Peynet - here we see the girl, perhaps a woman and very likely. Parisian, with French braids and wearing a yellow beret with a yellow polka dot dress knitting a scarf directly from the wool of a gracing lamb or sheep surrounded by pretty little flowers and green plants. We love the little, whimsical bird sitting on the back of the lamb. Marked and signed on the base - this piece was hand decorated.
