Daniel Reynolds' navy and apothecary blue mobile is a large handmade mobile, composed of a gourd section, porcelain, stoneware, and glass shapes in varying hues. Adhering to a simple colour palette of black, white, blue and cream Daniel Reynold’s mobile sculpture creates a paired back aesthetic, prioritizing texture, pattern, and form. The ever-changing experience of this piece is enhanced by a refined handling of materials. As it turns in the breeze, different sized holes frame carefully selected views, crafting a playful juxtaposition between pattern, color and light. Gourds were traditionally used by cultures in arid regions, and the form is often associated with creation myths surrounding water or drought. About Daniel Reynolds Daniel Reynolds is a sculptor and ceramicist, focused on the creation of abstract mobiles, lighting, and large ceramic vessels. Working primarily with his hands, Daniel uses a combination of porcelain, stoneware, and glass shapes of various hues. On occasion, he adds other objects, such as gourd sections, to create an organic contrast to the main materials. The resulting aesthetic reflects the salient movements of the twentieth century, paying homage to British artists such as Victor Pasmore, Patrick Heron and William Scott, to name a few. In contrast, Daniel's ceramic technique draws a direct line to the methods of the ancients, resulting in ample forms, enhanced through the use of simple colours and patterning. Daniel graduated with a BA Hons in Painting and Sculpture from Brighton Polytechnic, preceeded by a BA Hons in 3D Design from Middlesex. Daniel's work has recently been exhibited at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York and is included in the Patricia Phelps Cisneros Collection, New York.
