17th Century Italian Fragment with Chalcopyrite in a Druzy Crystal Matrix
About the Item
17th century Italian fragment mounted with chalcopyrite in a druzy crystal matrix.
This fragment was originally part of a candlestick from a church in Italy. It is distressed from time but still has the original mecca gold leaf on aspects of the piece which coordinates with the chalcopyrite crystals. The natural-forming chalcopyrite beautifully contrasts with the grey druzy crystal matrix.
The fragment artifact has been preserved and transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the pieces and the period shows that the Italian candlesticks are originally 17th century.
Together, the elements create a contemporary, yet historically significant work of organic and old.
