Stunning Hand Carved Early 20th Century Wooden Knight Sculpture by E. Moens
Artistic and highly decorative knight sculpture. This masterful sculpture is all hand-carved out of a single log of oakwood. Realistic knight sculptures that are hand-carved out of wood are very rare. To have found one of this amazing quality and in such good condition more than made our day. The word 'waakt' at the bottom is like an old Dutch way of saying 'serve and protect'. The incredibly realistic and perfectly balanced manner in which the artist has managed to portray this fatigued but still vigilant knight shows the skill of this master carver. Especially the perfect sitting posture and the incredible details of this knight's chainmail and clothing are of great quality and beauty. Signed and dated (14-6-32) on the back by the artist E. Moens we were mystified to find nothing about this artist. We think the 32 stands for 1932, but if it were to be 1832 then it would seem more logical not to find anything on the modern internet. However, for such a talented sculptor to not be known to the world would not be the first time. We have sold amazing works of art before that were signed by artists that probably did not live long or who may have died in one of the world wars. Apart from a damaged sword, this great quality, highly decorative and sizable knight sculpture could not be in a better condition. The warm patina makes it even more impressive and an absolute joy to own, put on display and look at. Mind you, our fair price even includes perfect packing & worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days. Maximum height x width x depth: 15 x 8.9 x 6.9 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.
