Vintage Wall Relief Captain Alte Seebär, Masculinity, 1970s
About the Item
This heavy hand-colored wall relief in cast plaster uzzes masculinity . It depicts a dutch seaman/captain called Dorus Rijkers who rescued over 500 people lost at sea between 1870-1890. He was originally portrayed in an oil painting by the Dutch artist Harry Haerendel in the 1920s. In Denmark where this particular example was made during the 1960s or 70s we have adopted this image being a seafaring nation your selves. Nowadays we treasure its masculine qualities over its history. The characteristic pipe has become synonymous with style and calmness. Measurements: 43 x 33 x 5 cm.
