About the Item

This is a unique piece. It is an sculpture made by Nature 150 million years ago, with base of natural stone included (base size: 29 x 60 x H 3 cm). This set has been designed by AINA and manufactured by NERINEA in our factory located in Valencia (Spain). Each piece is unique and unrepeatable. All Aina’s products are delivered with a certificate of material authenticity. Let us tell you the story of the Jurassic Fossil Marble… You're about to discover something extraordinary! Try to imagine the Earth at the time of the dinosaurs, during the Jurassic period, 150-200 million years ago. It’s hard to move from measuring time in years to do it in millions of years but have in mind that our planet was formed 4.000 million years ago and that the first dinosaurs lived 200 million years ago. Soon after, a seashell called Nerinea appeared. Nerinea is an extinct genus of fossil sea snails which inhabited the Earth during the Mesozoic Age, between the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, between 170 and 100 million years ago. In Zucaina, an inland town in the province of Castellón (Spain), there is a deposit with an incredible concentration of Nerineas fossils. This area was at one time submerged under a shallow sea in what would end up being the Iberian Peninsula. It is a seabed from the Jurassic period (dated between 163 and 152 million years) which sedimented during millions of years, trapping in its interior an exceptional concentration of Nerineas fossils. This makes this quarry a unique place in the World. The most superficial layer of the quarry has been exposed to the weather during thousands of years, suffering from natural erosion caused by the wind and the rain. This phenomenon has exposed the fossils in relief, making possible the experience of touching and feeling fossils of creatures which lived 150 million years ago. This finish cannot be replicated using the erosion processes which are applied to natural stones, what makes each piece completely unique and unrepeatable natural wonders of art. All these objects developed with the superficial layer material, belong to Aina’s Unique Collection. Only some pieces has all the faces with fossils in relief, they are carefully selected for this Unique Nature Sculptures Collection.
