Gem Grade Amethyst Geode Sculpture, Uruguay

About the Item

This Gem grade, Amethyst Geode crystal Sculpture, resembles in shape and silhouette that of a shrouded woman holding a swaddled baby. And would work well in a Boho Chic Styled Interior. The Geode originates from Uruguay where they are mined from the same rock formation as their relatives just to the north across the border into southern Brazil, they are igneous (volcanic) in origin. Differentiated from its Brazilian relatives by it’s typically smaller crystal size and darker, deeper colour the Uruguayan amethyst is a much higher quality amethyst. Most Uruguay amethyst is mined from open pit mines and the geodes or crystals must then go through a sequence of wash or dry cycles to clean off tenacious mud and to expose the amethyst crystals. It is difficult to acquire whole geodes from this area due to the very hard basalt matrix that the geodes formed in and the tendency for the geode to crack open on its own either through natural processes or during the course of mining, so usually an amethyst half/section or plate is most commonly seen. These geodes are approximately 130 million years old. Uruguay produces the finest and highly sought after gem quality amethyst. This is a fine and strikingly unusual Geode in shape with natural agate formation attached to this amethyst geode. This piece was legally and ethically sourced directly in the prestigious mines of Uruguay, South America. Uruguayan amethyst is internationally recognized as being the finest and most aesthetic amethyst in the world, due to its intense deep purple coloration, the large size of its peaked crystals, and its durability. These crystals were formed over 120-140 million years during the cretaceous period. Larger than Brazilian Amethyst, the points of the geodes mined in Uruguay are usually much longer and formed in deeper cavities. Its rich color and high level of durability has led Uruguayan Amethyst to be considered the finest and most valuable of all Amethyst, which explains why it is in such high demand and availability is extremely limited. The deep purple hue of Uruguayan Amethyst doesn’t just drive up its price point, it increases the vibrational power of this mineral too. That means, its Amethyst healing properties are heightened. The enhanced potency has inspired many believers to wear it as talismans around their neck to guard against the powers of evil, and it has been known to boost spiritual intuition. Uruguayan Amethyst shares qualities with most varieties of Amethyst, with the primary dissimilarity being the heightened power that wearers experience during use.It enhances the properties of less potent Amethysts, encouraging a greater number of psychic visions, vivid dreams, and pulling its carriers into a higher state of consciousness that lesser varieties cannot achieve. This type of Amethyst is very powerful to work with during meditation and energy healing due to its deeply relaxing properties. It has been known to clear fields of negative vibrations and allows the mind to tune into new energies that are choosing to be present during the session. The Uruguayan Amethyst geode is a promoter of creativity and new ideas, inspiring fresh insights and often divine inspiration. If you've been struggling with writer’s block or are at a loss for what to create, keep this variety of Amethyst near you.Known as the "artist’s stone," the Uruguayan Amethyst stimulates and centers a tired mind, allowing it to feel refreshed and inspired once more*. *Taken from cosmic cuts gemstone and jewellery.

Henry Coombes, British b.1977- "Umbrella" 2005; mixed media, oil paint on found umbrella, 84cm long, (ARR) Provenance: Purchased from Sorcha Dallas Gallery, Glasgow by the previous owner. Henry wrote: “The Umbrella was in my studio in 2005, being rainy Glasgow, I used it, left it open to dry. I was painting a series of oil paintings you can find on my website, ( oil painting section) Glen Golly, Ponker, Lady offering Cock to Fox. I loved what was happening on the pallet more than what was happening on the canvas. So the end of every day I would scrape it off and smear it on the umbrella. I am somewhat superstitious I believe in the notion of bad luck, I was afraid the open umbrella would upset the painting gods. So the ritual of putting the paint on the umbrella was to change into something new that would appease the spirits of bad luck, and bring good fortune to the painting. Paint is a fluid process will ultimately can not control, and if we try to hard it becomes dull illustration. I teach art in prison I see painting holding together the lives of life prisoners. I have huge faith in its power and same time I am humbled by it every time I go into the studio”. Henry Coombes’ distinctive art practice has received wide recognition since his graduation from Glasgow School of Art in 2002. He has a multi-disciplinary practice working in painting, collage, drawing, sculpture and film. Earlier film works like ‘Laddy and the Lady’ and ‘The Bedfords’ explored ideas of class, hierarchy, hunting for sport and Victorian...
