About the Item

Extra Large Jurassic Ammonite Fossil with Leafy Suture Patterns. Comes with a second, tiny (1.25 x 1 x .5) ammonite, further demonstrating the size of this one. ***NOTE: Our 1stDibs store is closing soon.*** This ammonite fossil is very large and weighty at about 11 x 10.5 x 3.75 inches and over 13 pounds! We also love that it has lots of leaf-like suture patterning, and that one side is a bit lighter in color than the other. This specimen could provide a nice focal point, conversation piece, or intriguing display for the home or office. As is ideal, this ammonite has been cleared of the matrix in which these are found during digs, so both sides (rather than just one side like some ammonite specimens) show the spiral pattern. Since it is a prehistoric fossil it shows its age (of course!) such cracks, pits, etc. We do our best to find the nicest possible items with the least bothersome imperfections and we think this is a pretty nice find. You may want to obtain a display stand for this piece. We have leaned it up for some of the photos and flat for others. IMPORTANT: THIS IS **NOT** TRULY A SET.
