Fine and Rare German 19th Century Figural Porcelain Liquor Dispenser Fountain

About the Item

A very fine and rare German, 19th century figural porcelain liquor dispenser fountain. The two-part allegorical Baroque style fountain depicting a standing bearded man, his arms raised while holding a seashell-shaped basing decorated with flowers and with a circular dispenser opening, all above a male satyr and a female half-centaur with a child. The detachable oyster-shaped basin decorated with flowers, scrolls and centered with a romantic courting park scene, raised on four gilt-porcelain foot-shaped feet. Bearing a Meissen "X" marking underneath. An almost identical fountain is Illustrated on "Meissner Porzellan Von Ernst Zimmermann" by Verlag Karl W. Hiersemann - Leipzig 1926 described as "Fontäne, 1727 odr 1728 von Kirchner Modelliert," circa 1870-1880. Note: The upper reservoir has an opening were a bottle can be inserted upside-down and the functioning spigot will allow you to serve any liquid. Measures: Height: 25 inches (62.5 cm). Width: 18 1/4 inches (46.3 cm). Depth: 18 inches (45.7 cm).

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. A beautiful and rare liquor dispenser. Some discoloration and enamel loss around the upper rim just below the spigot. The instep of the upper male has a minor hairline crack. Age wear. The dispenser and spigot In working condition.
