Magnificent Antique Large Silver Chalice

About the Item

Sensational large silver tiered chalice beautifully handcrafted entirely in silver (800 Silver standard); decorated with motifs in relief, engraved and chased. It is inspired directly in similar pieces influenced by Medieval Germany, in full Mannerism, due to the importance that Germanic silver had in that century; the German and Central European architects in general created for the collectors' cabinets rich pieces designed to be displayed and not used, this piece is a great example of virtuosity and ornamental wealth of Mannerist silverware, circa late 17th-early 18th century. The vessel has a cylindrical shape, adorned with embossed reliefs and again a typical motif of Mannerist silverware. Approx. total weight: 1449.30 grams.
