Aldo Londi Bitossi Raymor Italian Yellow 17" Ceramic Covered Jar c. 1960

About the Item

This is a striking monumental Italian ceramic covered jar by Aldo Londi for Bitossi, imported to the United States by Raymor during the 1960s. Executed in a vivid citron-yellow crackle glaze, the cylindrical form is accented with a continuous band of hand-impressed geometric motifs around the shoulder, while rows of evenly spaced impressed dots encircle the lid and lower body, lending subtle texture and architectural rhythm to the design. The clean, sculptural silhouette exemplifies the refined modernism for which Bitossi became renowned during the postwar period. Its saturated glaze, restrained ornamentation, and commanding scale make it an exceptional decorative object equally suited for display on a console, pedestal or shelving installation. The underside retains its original Raymor paper label together with the hand-painted production number, further supporting its period authenticity. The jar measures 17 1/8 inches high and 5 1/8 inches in diameter. Condition is very good overall, consistent with age and use. There are no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. A few minor glaze flakes and small areas of surface roughness, primarily along the rim and lid edge, are present as shown in the photographs. These are minor and do not detract from the outstanding presentation of this beautifully preserved example of Italian mid-century ceramics.
