Pair of Napoleon III Gilt Bronze Ewers

About the Item

Important pair of Napoleon III ewers in chased gilt bronze with rich decoration in relief of stylized foliage, friezes of palmettes, and vine branches framing a frieze of putti realizing the quadrivium (the set of the four mathematical sciences in the ancient theory: arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy). The handle, decorated with a cherub and vine branches, ends with a Satyr face. Each ewer rests on a round foot decorated with flutes and vine branches. Napoléon III Period, Circa: 1870. Dimension: W: 6.7 in, D: 10.6in, H: 22.8in.
