Pair of Early 19th Century Prussian Cast Iron Vases Urns Fer De Berlin

About the Item

A beautiful pair of cast iron vases (urns) on pedestal, attributed to the Royal Prussian Iron Foundries in Gleiwitz. This pair is modeled most likely after or inspired by an ancient Greek or Roman vase, one of the most important and best-known Classical forms used for decorative arts in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, when it became known as the Medici model. The handles each with two bearded masks (pan). The pedestals are decorated with a painter’s palette within laurel leaves and a pan flute within a wreath on two sides. Theses irons urns, which apparently had not functional purpose, were probably installed like ancient Greek and Roman vases and admired for their form. Original, untouched condition and patina.
