Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Porphyry and Ormolu Lidded Urns
About the Item
A sensational and high quality pair of French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. Porphyry and fire gilded ormolu lidded urns. The pair are raised by a square ormolu plate below the mottled square marble base. The socles are surrounded by a beaded laurel bands while the bottoms of the baluster shaped urns are decorated by acanthus leaves. On both sides of the urns are 'C' shaped reeded cornucopias filled with richly chased fruits and flowers. At the center of the urns are recessed foliate garlands decorated by intertwined berried laurel ormolu bands. The tapering tops lead to ormolu rims with additional fruits and flowers. The fitted lids are finished with ormolu rosettes and finials. All original gilding throughout.
