About the Item

This is a remarkable 19th-century brass and copper vessel showcasing masterful traditional Indian metalwork. The surface is richly decorated with hand-etched and repoussé scenes depicting Hindu deities, including the elephant-headed god Ganesha, accompanied by attendants and framed with detailed foliage and geometric borders. The vessel’s neck is encircled with finely detailed lotus petal motifs, a sacred symbol in Hindu culture, enhancing its ceremonial character. The copper and brass contrast creates a striking visual effect, with the warm copper panels standing out against the golden brass body. Such vessels were traditionally used in temples or homes for ritual offerings, sacred water storage, or as decorative pieces symbolizing prosperity and spirituality. The craftsmanship reflects both artistic expression and devotional purpose, making this vessel a meaningful artifact of 19th-century Indian culture. Signs of age, including wear, dents on the base, and surface patination, attest to its authenticity and historical use. A fine example for collectors of Hindu art, South Asian antiques, or those seeking a unique decorative display piece with cultural resonance.
