Charles Catteau for Boch La Louvière Art Deco Enamel Ceramic Flower Vase, Signed

About the Item

Stunning enamel ceramic flower vase by Charles Catteau signed Boch La Louvière with beautiful blue and beige tones. This pieces dates from the Art Deco period, Belgium, circa 1920. At the time of the Belgian Revolution of 1830 and the period of turmoil that followed (1830-1839), the BOCH family already had a long tradition in earthenware and experience in the strategy of reaction to political and economic developments. The artist acquired this know-how from 1748, when François BOCH decided to leave the profession of moulder to produce ceramics in Audun-le-Tiche (Lorraine), advised by his son-in-law Pierre Valette and helped by his three sons. They decide to produce simple pieces, cheap and accessible to the greatest number by using a glaze from Luxembourg. François Boch died in 1854 and the pottery was taken over by his three young sons, Jean-François and Dominique, twins of 19 years, and Pierre-Joseph, the youngest 17 years old. This is one of several very well handcrafted vessels made by this legendary group of artisan ceramists. Makes a wonderful gift. Measures: 18" High x 6" Diameter
