"Breton Fishing Village, " Masterpiece Art Deco Vase by Leduc for Sevres, 1934

About the Item

One of the finest pieces of Art Deco porcelain we have ever seen, and probably the greatest work ever executed by Adrien Leduc for Sevres, this large double-gourd vase depicts in great detail scenes from the life of a Breton village along the sea. Villagers are shown along the sea cliffs, with their homes and sailing ships in the distance, with a horizontal band of stylized fish, waves and wind dividing the landscape scenes. Leduc has used brilliant shades of deep periwinkle, ivory and gold to paint his scenes, and the result is large and deeply impressive.
