Chinese Qing Dynasty Flambe Glazed Archaistic Hu Vase with Deer Head Handles

About the Item

A gorgeous Chinese flambe glazed vase with molded deer head handles, Qing dynasty, 19th century. The vase of pear shaped archaistic "hu" form, with a full body sitting on a high foot, and rising up to a wide mouth. The shoulders with applied molded deer head handles. The vase glazed with a stunning and mesmerizing flambe transmutation glaze. The unctuous glaze of mottled purple, raspberry and blue, with large streaks under the deer heads. The foot showing signs of the piece having been chiselled off the firing block after the unctuous and runny glaze ran over the foot and adhered to the block, very typical of 19th century flame porcelains.
