"Fortress Castle" Gold Ceramic Vase Designed by Lara Bohinc

About the Item

"Fortress Castle" is a gold ceramic vase, designed by Lara Bohinc, who explores the marriage of ancient and futuristic form in the new Fortress Vase range, for which she has created a more complex geometric and modern structure from the original inspiration of the octagonal towers at the Diocletian Palace in Croatia. The resulting hexagonal blocks interlock and embrace to allow the play of light and shade on the many surfaces and angles. DIMENSIONS: D. 7.87", W. 7.87", H. 17.71" There are four fortress shapes: the larger column and castle (17.71" high), the pillar (11.81" high) and the tower vase (14.56" high). These are handmade from ceramic in a small Italian artisanal workshop and come in three finishes: dark gold, bronze and speckled white. LARA BOHINC, born in Slovenia, has been devoted to fashion, jewellery, design and architecture from an early age. She moved to London in 1996 to study jewelry and metalwork at the Royal College of Art. The following year, she debuted her collection at London Fashion Week, won the New Generation Design Award and began a series of collaborations with fashion big-timers such as Gucci, Costume National, Lanvin, Exte, Guy Laroche, Marcus Lupfer and Julien McDonald, and is a freelance consultant for Cartier International. Lara Bohinc was nominated for Accessory Designer of the Year Award by the British Fashion Council in 2008, and awarded Jewellery Designer of the Year by Elle Style Awards in February 2009. While retaining a deep respect for the traditional principles of her craft, she has drawn on her familiarity with Industrial techniques and materials to revitalize her pieces of design. Harnessing such technological processes as photo-etching, laser-cutting and computer design, she has fused modernity of style with classical design to achieve a contemporary yet timeless elegance.
