"Gathering Water, " Fabulous Art Deco Vase with Female Nudes by Nylund/Rorstrand
About the Item
Beautifully conceived and executed, this elegant vase designed by Gunnar Nylund for the famed Rorstrand porcelain works in Sweden depicts two pairs of nude women, all collecting water at the edge of a stream lined with reeds and lush foliage. The vase is an excellent example of the Art Deco porcelains designed by Gunnar Nylund in what he called a "flambe" glaze: rich browns or blue-grays highlighted with gold. Nylund worked at the famed Rorstrand porcelain works in Sweden from 1931-1958; and in his later years he became known for his organic forms and mottled glazes. The vase is well marked on the bottom.
