About the Item

A stunning example of Kaj Franck’s minimalist genius, this tall rectangular vase was designed for Nuutajärvi in the late 1960’s. With its clean lines, architectural silhouette and subtle horizontal ribbing, the vase reflects Franck’s commitment to functionality and form. Made from clear pressed glass with a gently textured surface. Standing at 29.5 cm, it’s a substantial piece - striking enough to stand alone, yet refined enough to hold its own in a well-balanced setting. A rare find in this size and color, it’s a standout example of Finnish modernism - perfect for collectors, design lovers, or anyone looking to bring a piece of design history into their home. • Height 29.5 cm (10 cm x 8.5 cm) • Model 1496 by Nuutajärvi Nötsjö 1968 • Made in Finland • Unsigned • Excellent vintage condition with light wear consistent with age (no chips or cracks) NOTE ON THE DESIGNER: Kaj Franck (1911–1989) was one of the key figures of Finnish design — a true modernist who believed that everyday objects should be both beautiful and useful. Often called “the conscience of Finnish design,” he stripped things down to their essentials, focusing on form, function, and lasting quality. His work for Arabia and Nuutajärvi helped shape what we now think of as classic Nordic style: honest, minimal, and made to last. Today, his pieces are not only timeless in design — they’re also becoming increasingly collectible and sought after by design lovers around the world.
