Grand Antique French Barbotine Vase, Parisian School, Late 1800s
This large antique French vase was created circa 1890 in a faiencerie in the town of Bourg-la-Reine, which is a suburb of Paris. This commune is considered to be part of the Parisian school of barbotine and faienceries, and in the late 1800s, they were producing some of the finest pieces available. Many were on display at the big Parisian exhibitions. The invention of barbotine allowed colored liquid clay to be applied on the terracotta with a brush, the way a painter can on canvas. The tall red vase below is marked EM on the bottom, and it signed Richard. It is a magnificent piece of artwork depicting a colorful floral scene with flying and perched birds, on a deep blood red background. Suitable for any visible area in the home, this piece will command attention.
