Japanese Contemporary Blue Gold Porcelain Vase by Master Artist, 3

About the Item
Extraordinary Japanese contemporary museum quality decorative porcelain vase, extremely intricately hand painted on an elegantly shaped porcelain body in blue, with extremely intricate patterns and extensive use of high purity gold, creating a mesmerizing palette with layers of transparent colors that can only be achieved by the old elaborate technique used in this piece. This exquisite piece is an exclusive signature masterpiece by widely celebrated master porcelain artist and recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist’s profile is available upon request.
This breathtaking piece showcases a dense mosaic of extremely intricate patterns created by finely drawn lines of gold. This technique creates a mesmerizing dream-like illusion of a “transparent” canvas on which fully articulated bold clematis flowers appear to be floating. Fully articulated phoenixes described in extraordinary detail freely fly above this breathtaking scene. This old technique that combines different elements of extremely intricate painting, with colors and depth that create a pallet that is flawlessly organic and makes the viewer wonder about the sequence of the artist’s work on this piece. The technique involves numerous challenges at different stages of painting as well as firing. For this reason and the enormous amount of time needed to create one piece, this technique is rarely used by today’s porcelain artists.
Another elegant intricate pattern in gold on iron-red background decorates the bottom of the vase with the artist’s signature in the centre. To add to the elegance of the whole piece, the intricate pattern continues all the way to the tip of the vase while the background color gradually turns into an attractive light blue around the neck.
The vase showcases intricate morning glories in blue and gold set against a breathtaking detailed backgound and auspicious phoenixes in flight above this striking scene.
“Fired-on gold.” The artist’s signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings.
This magnificent porcelain piece comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist.
