Japanese Contemporary Blue Pink Gold Black Porcelain Vase by Master Artist
About the Item
Unique Contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain vase, intricately hand painted in blue and pink on a beautifully shaped body, set against a stunning background of intricate tenmoku pattern on black to create a transparent surface, a signed masterpiece by widely acclaimed master porcelain artist from the historic Imari-Arita region of Japan. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition.
The artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. His profile is available upon request.
This elegant piece is lavishly decorated with generous intricate gold details to create a tenmoku pattern. It showcases a dramatic scene of grapes in delicate pink gracefully hanging decorating the surface of this elegant piece with foliage in blue, set against a mesmerizing background reminiscing stars in platinum brightening the night sky. The inside of the vase boasts a striking textured surface in platinum. The scalopped rim of the vase adds to the elegance of this piece.
Grapes have been a popular pattern in ceramics, lacquer ware and other Japanese art forms since accient times. The seeds it produces symbolize the prosperity of descendants.
"Fired-on gold,” this artist's signature style, highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings.
This exquisite porcelain vase comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by the artist.
