Ceramic Glazed Stoneware & Kintsugi Vessel by Jenny Hata Blumenfield

About the Item

Contemporary Glazed Stoneware & Kintsugi Vessel, entitled 'She, Of Unknown Origin', by Los Angeles-based artist and curator Jenny Hata Blumenfield. Mirroring halves of matte peacock-blue with a glossy midnight-blue rim surround the form of a classical urn, as if one vase has split in two, creating a double vessel, and revealing the apparition of a third vase in the center. The central "vase" is like an optical illusion, the shape not visible from every angle, but the dappled beige glaze appears around all sides of the piece, including glistening speckles of gold, flecks of creamy white and droplets of emerald green. Truly a remarkable piece of functional and collectible design. About the Artist: Jenny Hata Blumenfield, born in Los Angeles, CA, is a ceramic artist and curator living and working in Los Angeles, CA. She graduated with Honors from The Rhode Island School of Design (2010) with a BFA in Ceramics. Jenny's work subverts existing tropes of the feminine identity, craft and liminality through the lens of playful symbolism. Her work has been seen previously at venues including The Hole in New York City; Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, New Jersey; The Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles, CA; and Fisher Parrish Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. She recently was invited to speak as a panelist for the Asia Society in Tokyo, Japan and was a recipient of the Anderson Ranch Artist in Residence Ceramic program.
