Japanese Contemporary Green Gold Purple Porcelain Vase by Master Artist

About the Item

Mesmerizing Japanese contemporary decorative porcelain vase, intricately gilded and hand painted on a beautifully shaped large body in green, red, blue and purple with extensive gold details, a signed masterpiece by a highly respected award-winning master porcelain artist. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain – a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. He works in the historic Imari-Arita region of Japan. What sets his work apart is his extremely fine brushwork and unique techniques for incorporating precious metals – gold, platinum and silver – in his creations. This artist's profile is available upon request. This elegant piece depicts a gaggle of mallard ducks in a pond bordered by purple, red and blue irises in full bloom. The ducks have an extensive gold details that maximize the impact of the stunning raised enameling of the iris blossoms and the whirlpool patterns done in gold. The illusion of a peaceful pond in the early days of summer is completed with the vase’s lotus-blossom shaped lip that rises above the water with pristine beauty. “Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. This stunning large porcelain piece comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 13.5 in, D 12 in.

Exquisite Japanese contemporary Kutani porcelain vase, intricately hand painted on an elegantly shaped porcelain body, a signed masterpiece by the third generation master porcelain artist in traditional Kutani. His grandfather started as a porcelain artist 140 years ago faithfully protecting the characteristics of traditional Kutani fine porcelain. The creator of this piece, the third generation artist, continues to keep this tradition alive and is among a very small number of Kutani porcelain artists who still create traditional Kutani pieces. Traditional Kutani porcelain called Kutani Ware has a history of over 360 years. The spirit of Kutani ware emerges as highly skilled craftsmen draw hairline images on white porcelain, which are tempered with heavily applied ornamental glazes. These glazes, when fired in the kiln, are converted into five colors of enamel, green, yellow, blue, purple and red. When they are combined with the bold designs and free-flawing drawings, elaborately worked pieces are created. This stunning piece depicts two large and two small scalloped panels with flower and bird motifs on white background. The panels are surrounded by intricately designed scrolling vines motif in deep green. A band in traditional Kutani green...
