Loetz Vase Decor Phenomen Genre 202, 1899, Signed

About

This Loetz vase has a simple and elegant shape: in the lower third it appears bulbous, the vessel itself tapers upwards to a slender neck. The end is formed by a cantilevered, plate-shaped orifice. On the opal underlay of the mouth-blown glass, the uniform wave pattern of this decoration is particularly effective. If the lines of the gold-colored shimmering decoration are still close together at the neck of the vase, the feather-warped drawing is fully formed on the bulbous wall and can thus fully unfold its inner combed structure. The harmonious ornamentation of the four tongues is underlined by the corresponding decoration of the vase floor towards the bulbous wall. The free surface also emphasizes the onduated pattern. This Loetz vase can be dated circa 1900 and is well documented with the pattern number I/8080. Bib.: E. Ploil, H. Ricke e.a. (ed.), „Loetz – Böhmisches Glas 1880-1940“, vol. II, Prestel, Munich 1989, paper pattern I-8080, p. 61.
