Mid-Century Green Glass Pedestal Vase, Empoli Vetro Verde, Italy, 1950s

About the Item

This green glass vase is an Italian mid-century pedestal form dating from the 1950s, defined by its strong color and elevated, sculptural silhouette. Blown in richly tinted glass, the piece is rendered in a deep translucent green often referred to as vetro verde, a tone closely associated with glass production from the Empoli region of Italy. The pedestal base raises the body, creating height and balance, while the gently flared upper section softens the profile and enhances its overall proportion. Both decorative and functional, the vase works equally well as a standalone object or for displaying stems. Subtle variations within the glass reflect its handmade character and add depth to the surface. Glass from Empoli during the mid-20th century became widely exported and is recognised for its confident use of colour and accessible, sculptural forms. Condition Good vintage condition. Minor surface wear consistent with age and use. Dimensions Height: 24 cm (9.4 in) Width: 19 cm (7.5 in) Diameter: 10 cm (3.9 in)
