Mid-Century Silberdistel Fat Lava Vase "Yves Klein Blue"

About the Item

This Silberdistel vase is also called the 'Yves Klein Blue' vase because of the resemblance of the blue colour used by the French painter Yves Klein. Yves Klein was famous for his use of blue pigment. This Yves Klein vase is rare and is highly collectable. Silberdistel was founded by Johann and Grete Breu in 1947 and established in Gevelsberg in Nordrhein Westfalen. The name ‘Silberdistel’ is the German name for a plant named carline thistle that grows in the Swiss and Austrian Alps. The factory stayed a small studio, also during the fast expansion of the ceramics industry in Germany in the 50s and 60s. Light, white clay was used for the manufacture of the vases. A shape number and the size in height were engraved on the bottom side. The concern deteriorated in the 80s. In 2005 the brand ‘Silberdistel’was sold to Carstens.
