Moorcroft Green Glazed Flamminian Ware Cannister Vase 1913

About the Item

A rare Moorcroft for Liberty & Co green glazed flamminian ware cannister shaped vase dated 1913. Flamminian Ware was produced between 1905 and 1915 and was produced for renowned retailer Liberty & Co in London. The wares were made in various forms and colors but incorporating the same roundel design. This unusual ceramic example is of tall cylindrical shape standing raised on an integral foot rim with an unglazed edge and with a slightly recessed base. The body is of wide round shape with an angled neck rising to a narrow short funnel shaped neck with a simple opening. The body is decorated with Japanese or Celtic foliate roundels repeated around the body and is decorated in a rich dark apple green glaze with red and white tube lined outline to the patterns. We originally assumed that the piece would have had a cover however there is no indication of this around the opening or indeed any wear associated with this. The vase is signed Moorcroft to the base and is faintly dated 1913. It also has an impressed indistinct number to the lower edge. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
