About

A Monumental pair of antique Chinese Famille Noire hand painted Porcelain covered ginger jars/vases. Of baluster form, each of these beautiful vases are hand painted with gorgeous enamels on a noire or black ground. The noire bodies are intricately decorated with flowering pink enamel chrysanthemum flowers, and from them, flow multicolored enamel vines of pink, yellow, blue, white and green enamel. On each vase are two main panel cartouches with four smaller cartouches between them. Each of the twelve panels depicts scenes of flowers, leaves, vines, pheasants, branches as well as other majestic features. The upper collar of each body is decorated in a famille rose or fencai ground with variable Chinese characters adorned throughout. Each of these vases are in fabulous condition and are rarely found with their original tops, such as these. Each top is decorated just as the bodies, with a famille noire ground, flowering pink enamel chrysanthemum flowers, and floral decoration cartouches. The finial of each tops is painted with pink flowers, beautifully juxtaposing the famille noire bodies. China, circa 1840-1860.
