Petite Songye Mulondo Vessel

About

This petite vessel by the Songye People of the DRC is formed in the style of traditional storage containers, known as mulondo. Characteristic to these storage vessels are the deep incised lines around encircling the elongated neck and rounded shoulders. Applied while the clay is still wet, the bold designs have graphic impact and provide a textured surface for gripping the piece. Beautifully worn from a century of use, the vessel has rich character and timeless form.
