Pre-Columbian Inca Kero Vessel
About the Item
Large wooden Pre-Columbian Inca Kero cup.
From Central Peru, circa 1300 to 1500 AD.
A hollowed wooden vessel, of conical form, decorated with carved incised lines in geometric pattern.
Keros were traditionally made in pairs for the ritual exchange of chicha, a fermented beverage made from corn.
Measures: 7.25" H x 6" W
Cracks are seen in the vessel which is consistent with the age of the piece.
Provenance: From a private collection in Portland Oregon, whose Pre-Columbian pieces were acquired from Arte Primitivo
(Howard S. Rose Gallery) in New York.
