"Seashells and Coral, " Unique Art Deco Vase with Gold Glaze by Gregory

About the Item

Its gold-on-brown glazes softly glistening in the light, this lovely and unique vase by Waylande Gregory depicts a variety of undersea life, including nautilus shells and starfish on one side, and an array of seaweed and coral on the other. Gregory was a renowned WPA sculptor and innovative ceramicist, and produced a wide range of sculptures and wares in ceramic beginning in his college days, through his years working with Lorado Taft and later when he created large multi-figure pieces for WPA projects, institutions and public parks. A major retrospective of Gregory's work was recently organized by the University of Richmond's Museums.
