About the Item

Contemporary American metalsmith Sylvie Lissa Alusitz's "Dean Street Vessel Series" was inspired by tapestry weaving techniques. Through unique patterns and folding, the artist is able to create the uncommon shapes to the vessels. Each is then hand sewn with copper wire. Every vessel is different, each with a different patina or pattern drawn by the artist. This set of vessels was created to represent a specific place in the artist’s life. She has formed deep connections with place, each impacting and shaping her life. Although created with a direct relationship to the artists, she hopes others will be able to find something about the vessels to connect with, perhaps the stitching reminds you of the quilts your grandmother used to make or the embroidery on a favorite dress from childhood. The complete collection is shown but are being sold as a special order (Image 8) of 4 Vessels 1 - small vessel 3.75" x 3.75" x 3" - $450 each and 3 large vessels 3.75" x 3.75" x 6" - $500 each. All works are accompanied with a certificate of authenticity and/or signed by the artist. About the Artist: Sylvie Lissa Alusitz is a metalsmith and jeweler who explores the relationships we have to people and place. The home serves to protect our daydreams, compilations of memory and imagination. Influenced by the basketry and textile communities, she translates those processes into metal to create objects that become physical representations of things untouchable. They have the ability to transcend time, mark birth, death and regrowth. Sylvie received her masters in Fine Arts from State University of New York at New Paltz in metal in 2019 and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2015. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, having been selected for and participating in Autor Contemporary Jewelry Fair in Bucharest, Romania and 7 artists for 7 days at Myday-Byday Gallery in Rome. She has been included in exhibitions at the Greater Denton Arts Council, Denton, TX, the Worcester Center for Crafts, Worcester, MA, the inaugural year of New York City Jewelry Week, and selected as a Kickstarter at JCK Las Vegas. Sylvie has also received funding from the Tiffany and Co. Foundation and the Women’s Jewelry Association. She is currently an Artist-in-Residence at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Canada.
