Unique Art Nouveau Vase by Meta Lieberkind, Royal Copenhagen, Denmark, 1911

About the Item

Unique Art Nouveau vase of ovoid form in porcelain, hand painted with a large blue iris in full bloom above elongated green leaves, the upper body with a continuous landscape of water, mist and trees rendered in soft grey-blue tones, the whole on a pale ground shading from white to soft blue. Marked to the base with the Royal Copenhagen three-wave mark and dated 1911. A unique, privately painted work by Meta Lieberkind. The vase exemplifies the finest tradition of individually painted Royal Copenhagen pieces from the Art Nouveau period, in which skilled decorators brought a distinctly painterly sensibility to the porcelain surface, combining botanical precision with atmospheric landscape observation. The iris, with its association with water and transitional states, is an emblematic Skønvirke motif, here rendered with particular delicacy and depth. Measurements: Height: 45 cm (17.7 in) Diameter: 20 cm (7.9 in) The vase is in good original condition.
