Antique 18th Century Large George III Sterling Silver Armorial Tankard, 1806

About the Item

Fine, large George III period sterling silver barrel shaped tankard by William Fountain, London, 1806. Beautifully engraved with an ornate armorial crest of three fleur de lis and the motto Candide Comme la Fleur, Fair as the Flower, within a Rococo cartouche, topped by a knight's helmet and a fleur de lis, surrounded by an elaborate floral wreath tied with a bow in the center. The circular barrel form body centered by an oval medallion for a personalized inscription flanked by floral and foliate garlands. 7 inches high to top of thumb piece 6.5 inches at the widest point to handle 4.5 inches diameter of base Fully hallmarked and in very good condition 26 troy ounces approximate weight.

    Rare, very early George I period silver brandy/spirits warmer, Joseph Clare I, London, 1714. Wonderful, historically interesting 308 years barware piece. Classic circular tapering form with a shaped base, heavy solid silver with a beautifully turned oak handle. Fully hallmarked on the side of the body Period initials on the bottom of base N E M Measurements: 3.32 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches to the to of handle, 2.13 inches height of vessel. 1714 was the year George I ascended the throne, making this an interesting, very early piece of Georgian silver. Excellent piece in very good condition commensurate with age. Beautiful old patina on the silver and the fine oak handle.
