Large 19th Century English 3 Decanter Silver Plated and Oak Tantalus, Betjemann
This three bottle tantalus is one of the best examples we have ever owned. It is made by the top manufacturer Betjemann of London and was retailed at Mappin and Webb of 158-162 Oxford Street, London being jewellers and suppliers of top quality items. The case is constructed in fine English oak and has been embellished with superb carved decoration. It has a heavy silver plate brass mechanism and fittings all of which have been re-plated to a high standard. The original decanters and stoppers have been deeply handcut with a fine design and are in remarkably good condition with only the most minor of usage marks. They also retain a set of three slightly later hall marked silver labels, whiskey, gin and brandy hallmarked Birmingham 1926-7-8 The hinged mechanism is fully operational but unfortunately we do not have the key to lock it. We would recommend not to lock such an item due to loss of the key or failure of the antique lock.
