Fun black plastic MCM serving pieces consisting of a Mid-Century Modern Genie server carafe in black by David Douglas for David Douglas and Co., Inc of Manitowoc, Wisconsin circa 1966; a Mid-Century Modern salad set in black plastic by Styson Art Products Co. circa 1956; and an unsigned Mid-Century Modern black plastic serving bowl. All are in fabulous vintage condition apart from a burn mark in one of the small salad bowls (most likely from a hot popcorn kernel when being used as a popcorn set!) and minor scratching from use, as you would expect for age. We’ve combined these nine items for a fun black plastic Mid-Century Modern collection for your entertaining or display. First piece is a handsome Genie server carafe which was designed and produced in 1966 by David Douglas for his company David Douglas & Co., Inc. in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Douglas was a prolific designer of kitchenware and dinnerware. This carafe is made of Accalac, which was made to look and feel like wood but wear like iron. It was made at the time, circa 1966, of the iconic I Dream of Jeannie show and takes it shape from Jeannie’s Genie bottle from the opening of some episodes. Its tag portrayed it being used not only as a coffee carafe but as a vase and a wine carafe. These were sold under the name of Therm Ware and came in many colors; but, I’m partial to the black myself. The next item in this collection is a black plastic salad set, or popcorn set in our house, by Styson Art Products Co. This is a seven-piece set comprised of one large boat-shaped serving bowl and six small boat-shaped portion bowls. This set is marked on the bottom dated 1956. The third piece in this collection is an unsigned but unusual shaped serving bowl that we know you will find useful again and again. We know you will love having all these fun vintage Mid-Century Modern plastic collectibles. Make them yours.
