1908 Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Centrepiece or Bowl

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver centrepiece bowl in the Regency style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver centrepiece has a plain oval rounded form, modelled in the form of an antique wine cistern. The lower portion of the body is encircled with impressive chased fluted ornamentation. The upper rim is encompassed with an impressive cast and applied bead and spindle, collared style border The interior surface of the bowl is embellished with fine chased scrolling leaf decoration; displaying the inverted design to the anterior surface below the aforementioned protruding border. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with two cast and applied handles, each fashioned in the form of lion's masks grasping a leaf decorated drop-ring handle. This centrepiece bowl retains the original detachable push fit wirework display cover. The bowl is supported by four exceptional Regency style cast paw feet accented with fur details to the sockets, in junction with the body. This exceptional bowl centrepiece retains the original gilding. The underside of the centrepiece bears the retailer's mark 'Lambert, 12 Coventry St'. Condition This antique silver centrepiece is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition. There is some minor wear of the original gilding to the underside and border of the bowl, in keeping with age and use. The original metal display cover has two losses to the interlacing grille. The cast, applied and chased decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the bowl are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
